HAMDEN, Conn. - Over 50 youth hockey players were on hand for the final day of the largely successful Rand Pecknold Ice Hockey Camp. The head coach for the nationally-ranked Quinnipiac University men's ice hockey team led a white team that managed to squeeze out the game-winning goal in the final minutes over the blue team in an 18-17 win in the final game of the 2009 camp.
Pecknold has been running the came for all age groups since early July. Campers from several age groups attended over the course of the summer and received a variety of instructions from the Bobcats' head coach, as well as associate head coach Ben Syer, assistant coach Bill Riga, former volunteer assistant Graham Johnson.
In addition to the Bobcats' coaching staff, a variety of men's ice hockey players were also on-hand as counselors. Included on the camp counselor roster were Brett Dickinson, Sean Coughlin, Mike Atkinson, Zach Hansen, Mike Glaicar, Kevin Bui, Pat McGann, Eric Lampe, Brandon Wong, Yuri Bouharevich and Scott Zurevinski. Former men's ice hockey players on-hand were Matt Sorteberg, Chris Myers and 2009 NCAA Scoring Leader Bryan Leitch.
