Men's Ice Hockey Receives Votes In First USCHO/CBS College Sports Poll Of Season

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - The Quinnipiac University men's ice hockey received a vote in the first College Sports Division I Men's Poll of the 2009-10, released Oct. 5, 2009. The Bobcats open the regular season this week when they travel to Columbus, Ohio to take on No. 17 Ohio State University on Thursday and Friday night. Quinnipiac finished last season at 18-18-3 overall and 9-10-3 in ECAC Hockey.

Quinnipiac was one of nine ECAC Hockey teams featured in the first poll announcement of the year. Cornell was ranked seventh, followed by Yale in the eight spot and Princeton ranked 10th. Harvard received 35 votes but did not crack the top 20, followed by St. Lawrence (23), Clarkson (10), Union (4) and Dartmouth (1). Quinnipiac will also host No. 15 St. Cloud State on Jan. 15-16 and Massachusetts, who received votes, on Nov. 28.

The Bobcats return 16 players to their roster for the 2009-10 season while welcoming 13 freshmen, the most in Quinnipiac's Division I history. Jean-Marc Beaudoin (St. Paul, Alb.) will serve as the team's captain while Brandon Wong (Victoria, B.C.) was the first player named an assistant captain.

The Bobcats saw their first action of the season on Sunday, Oct. 4 in a 4-3 win against the University of Prince Edward Island in an exhibition game at the TD Bank Sports Center in Hamden, Conn. Quinnipiac jumped out to a 3-0 lead before allowing three unanswered goals. Freshmen Jeremy Langlois (Tempe, Ariz.), Mike Dalhuisen (Nymegen, Holland) and Ben Arnt (Oakdale, Minn.) all collected two points. Langlois' goal, deflected in late in the second period, proved to be the game-winner.
