Men's Ice Hockey Named College Hockey News National Team Of The Week
HAMDEN,
Conn. - The Quinnipiac University men's ice hockey team was
announced as the College Hockey News National Team of the Week
after the Bobcats swept No. 17 Ohio State University in a two-game
series in Columbus, Ohio. Quinnipiac is the first team to receive
the honor from College Hockey News this season while it marks the
second time that Quinnipiac has won the award in the last two
seasons.
Yesterday,
Quinnipiac received 11 votes in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine
Men's College Hockey Poll. In the INCH Power Rankings, the Bobcats
were picked as one of three "Bubble-licious" teams, along with New
Hampshire and Michigan State.
Quinnipiac
senior Eric Lampe (Madison, Wisc.) earned ECAC Hockey Player of the
Week honors while sophomore Dan Clarke (Belleville, Ont.) was named
Goalie of the Week. Lampe led Quinnipiac with three goals and
assist, scoring twice in the Bobcats 4-2 win on Thursday, Oct. 8
before following it up with a one-goal,one-assist performance in a
3-1 win against OSU, including the go-ahead and eventual
game-winning goal. Clarke stopped a career-best 44 shots in goal,
including 24 in the first period before blanking the Buckeyes over
the final two periods of play.
In
addition to Lampe and Clarke, Brandon Wong (Victoria, B.C.) and
Eric Hartzell (White Bear Lake, Minn.) also turned in impressive
numbers in the Bobcats first two games. Wong had a goal and an
assist in the first game of the series, before rounding out the
trip with a pair of helpers in the second game. Lampe and Wong make
Quinnipiac one of three teams, along with Nebraska-Omaha and
Michigan State, to feature two players with four points after the
season's first two games. Hartzell stopped 30 saves in the Bobcats'
season-opening win including the first 10 shots he saw in the first
period. He went on to blank Ohio State over the final two periods
to join former Bobcat Bud Fisher as the only two Quinnipiac
freshman in the Bobcats' Division I era to stop 30 shots in their
first collegiate game.
Quinnipiac
returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 17 when they host Bentley
University at 4 p.m. at the TD Bank Sports Center in Hamden,
Conn.
