Dan Clarke And Victoria Vigilanti Named November's Quinnipiac Athletes Of The Month

HAMDEN, Conn. - Quinnipiac University men's ice hockey sophomore goaltender Dan Clarke (Belleville, Ontario) and women's ice hockey freshman goaltender Victoria Vigilanti (Woodbridge, Ontario) have been named the Quinnipiac Athletes of the Month for November. This is the first time that Clarke and Vigilanti have been recognized as the top monthly athletes.

Clarke, the only goalie in Division I hockey with a 1.000 winning percentage, posted a perfect 7-0-0 record in the month of November to lead Quinnipiac to 8-0-0 mark for the month and to the No. 4 ranking in the country. Clarke has won seven consecutive decisions for the year, six against ECAC Hockey competition to help the Bobcats slide into first place in the league standings at 7-0-0. For the month, Clarke posted a .935 save percentage and a 2.00 goals-against average after allowing 14 goals in over 420 minutes in net. In a 4-2 win against Clarkson, Clarke stopped 34 of 36 shots on goal before bouncing back with a 27-save effort in a 5-2 win against St. Lawrence, earning ECAC Hockey Goalie of the Week honors. Clarke then stopped 60 of 63 in a two-game weekend sweep of Harvard (5-1) and Dartmouth (4-2) to collect his second straight conference award and third of the season. He then blanked No. 5 Cornell - on the Big Red's home ice - over the first 55 minutes of play before digging in for the 3-2 win. This past week, Clarke stopped 29 of 30 against Princeton in a 5-1 win before turning back 28 against No. 10 UMass in a 5-4 overtime victory.

Vigilanti was a key component in the Bobcats' seven-point month in ECAC Hockey, starting off strong as she notched her season-high in saves with 34 at Brown on Nov. 6. The Bobcats went on to tie the Bears, 0-0, in that match-up, earning Vigilanti her third shutout of the season. The rookie goaltender posted a 3-2-3 record in November, with her biggest win coming against Dartmouth on Nov. 14, recording the program's first ever win against the Big Green. Vigilanti turned aside 32 shots by Dartmouth in that game, including an remarkable 18 saves in the third period to hold on to the 2-1 lead for the victory. The Ontario-native earned ECAC Hockey Goaltender of the Week honors for the second time of the season after the Bobcats' two-point weekend against Colgate and Cornell on Nov. 20 and 21. Vigilanti recorded 60 saves in 130 minutes of action between the pipes on the weekend, highlighted by a 3-3 tie with the No. 7 ranked Big Red. The freshman turned aside 32 shots by Cornell, holding them scoreless in the third period where the Bobcats scored two goals in the final 30 seconds of play to tie the game, 3-3. Through 16 games played, Vigilanti continues to rank atop the ECAC goaltending leader boards, ranking third in save percentage (.938), goals-against average (1.58) and saves (346).

Also nominated were sophomore Rich Klauber (Thomaston, Conn.) of the men's cross country team, James Feldeine (New York, N.Y.) of the men's basketball team, Freddy Hall (St. George, Bermuda) of the men's soccer team, Morgan Roche (Clifton Park, N.Y.) of the women's cross country team, Jacinda Dunbar (Edison, N.J.) of the women's basketball team, Hanne Walleck (South Glastonbury, Conn.) of the women's soccer team and Kelby Carey (Surfside Colony, Calif.) of the volleyball team.
