No. 7 Men's Ice Hockey Skates To 1-1 Tie With Holy Cross

WORCESTER, Mass. - The No. 7 Quinnipiac University men's ice hockey team played to a 1-1 tie with Holy Cross in a non-conference match-up played at the Hart Center in Worcester, Mass. Quinnipiac goes to 12-3-1 overall while Holy Cross goes to 4-9-4.

"I thought we played well in the first two periods - we held them to 12 shots," head coach Rand Pecknold said. "I don't think we played well in the third. We needed to make some plays tonight and no one did."

Quinnipiac senior Greg Holt (Mt. Sinai, N.Y.) put the Bobcats out to an early lead with his fourth goal of the season with eight minutes to play in the first period. Holt stopped an Holy Cross break-out in the neutral zone and took off down ice, leaving him one-on-one with Crusaders' goalie Thomas Tysowsky. Holt, skating down the right side of the ice, moved over to the slot, faked left and then went to his backhand to beat Tysowsky and give the Bobcats a 1-0 lead.

Holy Cross tied the game 3:12 into the second period on Everett Sheen's eighth goal of the season. The Crusaders' Jamie Jelinek handled the puck in the slot to Quinnipiac goalie Dan Clarke's (Belleville, Ont.) right before sending a pass across the crease to Sheen, who was waiting on the far post. Sheen one-timed a shot past Clarke to tie the game at 1-1. Both teams played to a tie heading into the second intermission.

Both teams played through the final period and overtime period without a goal. Quinnipiac outshot Holy Cross, 24-15 as Clarke finished with 14 saves for the day.

Quinnipiac returns to action on Saturday, Dec. 12 when it hosts non-conference foe American International College at 4 p.m. at the TD Bank Sports Center in Hamden, Conn. Following the game, Quinnipiac will host a "Skate With The Bobcats" event. All children in attendance are invited to hit the ice with the Quinnipiac men's ice hockey team.
