No. 8 Men's Ice Hockey Loses To Harvard, 3-1

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The No. 8/10 Quinnipiac University men's ice hockey team lost to Harvard University, 3-1, in an ECAC Hockey match-up at the Bright Hockey Center in Cambridge, Mass. With the loss, Quinnipiac drops to 13-4-1 overall and 7-3-0 in ECAC Hockey action. Harvard improves to 2-8-2 overall and 2-5-2 in ECAC Hockey. Sophomore Yuri Bouharevich (Montreal, Que.) scored Quinnipiac's only goal of the game.

"I thought that Harvard played well tonight, take nothing away from them," Quinnipiac Head Coach Rand Pecknold said. "We didn't come out and play a full 60 minutes tonight. We were alright in the first, and got better as the game went along, we played great in the third, but Harvard deserves the credit. They were great tonight."

Harvard's Luke Grenier scored his first career goal at the 9:54 mark of the first period to stake the Crimson to a 1-0 lead. Ryan Grimshaw picked up the puck in the neutral zone and sent it to center ice where it was picked up by Colin Moore. Moore skated into the Bobcats' zone and unleashed a shot that was stopped by Quinnipiac's Dan Clarke (Belleville, Ont.) that bounced out to the sophomore goalie's right side. Grenier collected the rebound and flipped a wrist shot past Clarke to the top right corner to give Harvard a one-goal lead.

Following a Quinnipiac penalty approximately six minutes into the second period, Harvard freshman Louis LeBlanc gave the Crimson a 2-0 lead with a power-play goal at the 6:50 mark. Alex Fallstrom handled the puck just below the blue line in front of Harvard's bench before sending a pass to Chris Huxley at the point. Huxley sent the puck through traffic where it found LeBlanc's tape just to the right of the Quinnipiac goal. LeBlanc's re-direct beat Clarke to give Harvard a two-goal lead with his fourth goal of the season for the freshman.

Quinnipiac got on the board just under three minutes into the third period when Mike Atkinson (Sparta, N.J.) dug the puck out of the corner to the left of Harvard's goal. Atkinson then sent the puck out to the point where it was handled by Greg Holt (Mt. Sinai, N.Y.). Holt's shot on Harvard's Kyle Richter was stopped before being picked up by Bouharevich, who skated across the crease and slipped a shot past Richter for his fourth goal of the season. Atkinson and Holt were both credited with their fifth and eighth assists of the year, respectively. It was Holt's third consecutive game with a point, and fourth out of his last five.

Harvard's David Valek added an empty-net goal with under a minute to play. Danny Biega and Alex Biega picked up assists on the play.

Quinnipiac returns to action on Monday, January 4, 2010 when it travels to Hobey Baker Rink in Princeton, N.J. to take on Princeton University in an ECAC Hockey match-up set for a 7 p.m. start.
