NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Quinnipiac University men's ice hockey team lost to nationally-ranked No. 5/6 Yale, 5-1, in an ECAC Hockey match-up at Ingalls Rink in New Haven, Conn. Quinnipiac drops to 4-3-1 overall and 0-1-1 in ECAC Hockey while Yale improves to 2-0-0 in ECAC Hockey play and 4-0-0 overall.
The Bobcats held a 1-0 lead after the first period and trailed by a goal, 2-1, heading into the third period before Yale scored three times in the first six minutes of the period to open the lead. Quinnipiac sophomore Jeremy Langlois (Tempe, Ariz.) had the Bobcats' only goal. Yale's Brian O'Neill scored twice, while Denny Kearney and Broc Little had a goal and an assist each. Jeff Anderson also scored for the Bulldogs.
Langlois put the Bobcats on the board at the 7:49 mark of the first period with his second goal of the season, this one coming on the power play. Zach Davies (Smithers, B.C.) worked the puck from the point to the opposite side of the ice to Zach Hansen (White Bear Lake, Minn.). Hansen put a shot on goal that Langlois picked up just outside the crease and put a shot on Yale goalie Ryan Rondeau. He collected his own rebound and snuck it past the senior goalie to give Quinnipiac a 1-0 lead.
Yale's Denny Kearney scored the equalizer at the 5:01 mark of the second period after he took control of the puck above the face-off circle to Clarke's left and skated in on goal. Kearney faked left, brought the puck back and banged home the game-tying goal over Clarke's left shoulder. Yale took a 2-1 lead at the 15:32 mark when Broc Little converted on a power-play opportunity with an assist going to Chad Ziegler.
The Bulldog's first goal of the third period came at the 2:18 mark when Chris Cahill picked up the puck above the Bobats' blue line, skated between the face-off circles in front of Clarke and left a pass for Brian O'Neill. O'Neill's shot from the back door slipped over the goal line to give Yale a 3-1 lead.
The Bulldogs' second power-play goal of the night came at the 3:33 mark when Broc Little wrapped a pass around the boards in the Bobcats' zone. Kearney skated behind the Bobcats' net and found Jeff Anderson in front of the crease. Cahill's one-timer beat Clarke bar-down to give the Bulldogs a three-goal lead. O'Neill scored again at the 5:16 mark on a blast from the slot to hammer home the four-goal win, 5-1.
Quinnipiac is back in action next weekend when they travel to Ithaca, N.Y. to take on Colgate on Friday, Nov. 12 at 7 p.m. before heading to Hamilton, N.Y. on Saturday, Nov. 13 to face Cornell at 4 p.m.
