HAMDEN, Conn. - The Quinnipiac University men's ice hockey team lost to Princeton, 3-0, in an ECAC Hockey match-up at the TD Bank Sports Center in Hamden, Conn. With the loss, the Bobcats fall to 7-5-1 overall and 3-3-1 in league play while Princeton improves to 5-4-0 overall and 5-2-0 in ECAC Hockey action.
Quinnipiac sophomore goalie Eric Hartzell (White Bear Lake, Minn.) turned in his third 30-save performance in his last four games, but it wasn't enough as the Bobcats let-up three goals in the game. Princeton's special teams took advantage of the man-advantage, scoring on 2-of-4 power plays while the Bobcats were 0-for-5 while a man-up. The loss also snaps a four-game win streak at the TD Bank Sports Center as the Bobcats are now 5-2-0 on their home ice this season.
Both teams played to a scoreless draw through the first period, with Princeton holding a 10-7 advantage on shots. Despite a 15-6 shot advantage in the second period, the Tigers only accounted for one goal in the period as they headed into the third period with a 1-0 lead. Princeton's Cam Ritchie scored his first goal of the season on the power play at the 7:56 mark of the period.
In the third period, Taylor Fedun scored his first goal of the year at the 12:16 mark, also on the power play, with assists going to Mike Kramer and Andrew Caloff, who picked up his team-leading 10th assist. Kevin Lohry scored his second goal of the year, with assists to Will MacDonald.
Quinnipiac returns to action on Saturday, Nov. 27 when it takes on University of Massachusetts at 7 p.m. at the Mullins Center in Amherst, Mass. The game can be seen live on the New England Sports Network.
