Providence took a 2-0 lead into the first intermission, powered by a pair of goals by Andy Balysky and Matt Germain. Both goals came late in the period, within a minute of each other. Bouharevich was waiting in the face-off circle where he one-timed a shot past Beaudry to move Quinnipiac within a goal, 2-1.
Providence pushed its lead back to two goals with just under 11 minutes to play in the second period. Ian O'Connor scored his fifth goal of the season when a shot by Ben Farrer was blocked, sending the puck in the air. O'Connor, who was standing in front of the goal, was able to bat it past Hartzell to give the Friars a 3-1 lead. Kevin Hart also picked up an assist on the play.
Providence took a three-goal lead with less than three minutes to play in the second period when Kremyr snuck the puck between Hartzell's pads to push the Friars' lead to 4-1. Germaine and Army set up the play.
Providence took a 5-1 lead early in the third period when Army scored his fourth goal of the year with an assist going to Beaudry. Pat McGann (Evergreen, Ill.) replaced Hartzell in goal to start the final period after Hartzell stopped 19 of 23 shots on goal. The goal came on the first shot on McGann in the period.
Arnt scored his fourth goal of the season at the 3:24 mark of the third. Kevin Bui (Edmonton, Alberta) sent a pass to John Dunbar (Calgary, Alberta) who put a shot on goal that Beaudry kicked away. Arnt managed to get a stick on the puck and punched it past Beaudry to pull Quinnipiac within three goals, 5-2, with most of the third period to play.
Quinnipiac sits idle for almost three weeks before it hosts the No. 10/9 University of Nebraska-Omaha for a two-game series at the TD Bank Sports Center on Dec. 30-31.
