HAMDEN, Conn. - The Quinnipiac University men's ice hockey team defeated Colgate, 3-1, in an ECAC Hockey match-up at the TD Bank Sports Center in Hamden, Conn. Freshman Connor Jones (Montrose, British Columbia) had a goal and an assist in the win as the Bobcats improve to 5-5-2 in ECAC Hockey play and 11-9-2 overall. Colgate drops to 3-15-1 overall and 0-6-1 in league action.

Three different players scored for the Bobcats in Jones, Ben Arnt (Oakland, Minn.) and Jeremy Langlois (Tempe, Ariz.). Eric Hartzell (White Bear Lake, Minn.) stopped 24 of Colgates' 25 shots on goal to improve to 8-2-1 on the season. Hartzell also had an assist on Jones' goal, his first career point. Quinnipiac has now won 10 of the 12 games in which it has scored first while also running their NCAA-leading unbeaten streak when leading after two periods to 58 games (53-0-5). The Bobcats are unbeaten (3-0-1) in their last four games and winners in four of their last six.

Colgate outshot the Bobcats' 16-11 in the first period, but neither team could find the back of the net. Quinnipiac clamped down on the Colgate offense, outshooting the Raiders 21-9 over the final two periods, while also blocking 15 shots in the game.

Jones put the Bobcats on the board with just two minutes into the second period. Hartzell corralled the puck behind the Bobcats' goal and sent it into the corner to Loren Barron (Glendora, Calif.). Barron began skating up ice before hitting Jones' stick just below the Bobcats' blue line. Jones skated through the Colgate defense and banged a shot past Raiders goalie Bryan Bessette to give Quinnipiac a 1-0 lead. The assist was Barron's seventh point in the last three games. After a six-point showing against Nebraska Omaha last week, the second-year defenseman was named the MLX Skates ECAC Hockey Player of the Week.

Colgate's Robbie Bourdon scored his sixth goal of the season just 5;20 into the second period with assists to Jack McNamara and Mike McCann. Hartzell stopped the first 18 shots he saw before Bourdon's slipped by him to tie the game at 1-1.

At the 12:33 mark, Russell Goodman (Saskatoon, Saskatchewan) found Jones streaking up-ice and delivered the pass to the freshman center. Jones skated in on net, drew Bessette out and then dropped a pass back to Arnt who deposited his fifth goal of the season on a practically empty net. The assist was Jones' ninth of the year, while Goodman picks up his fourth.

With less than 30 seconds to play, and Bessette off the ice in favor of an extra skater, Colgate lost control of the puck in the neutral zone where Scott Zurevinski (Saskatoon, Saskatchewan) poked it ahead to Langlois. Langlois, who led the Bobcats with four goals and four assists for eight points in the month of September, scored the empty-net goal for his ninth of the season and his sixth goal in the last eight games.

Quinnipiac returns to action on Saturday, Jan. 8 when they host Cornell at 7 p.m. at the TD Bank Sports Center. Cornell defeated Princeton tonight, 2-1, to improve to 5-8-1 overall and 3-4-0 in ECAC Hockey.
