Quinnipiac Men's Ice Hockey Faces Canisius On Sunday, Jan. 16 At 4 PM

Busing It To Buffalo
The Quinnipiac University men's ice hockey team will travel to
Buffalo, N.Y. to take on Canisius College in a two-game,
non-conference series on Sunday, Jan. 16 and Monday, Jan. 17, with
both games scheduled for a 4:05 p.m. start at the Buffalo State
Sports Center. Quinnipiac is currently 11-10-2 overall, including a
3-1-1 mark in its last five games while Canisius is 6-10-4 overall
and are currently on a four-game losing streak.

All-Time Against Canisius
Quinnipiac and Canisius have met a total of 24 times since the
Bobcats joined the Division I ranks in 1998, with Quinnipiac
winning 14 of those games. Overall, QU is 14-7-3 all-time against
the Griffins, but have not faced them since the 2005 season. In the
24 meetings between the two teams, Quinnipiac lost back-to-back
games against Canisius just once (1/9/04 and 1/10/04) and posted a
series-best six-game winning streak from 12/1/01 to 3/15/03. The
Bobcats are 11-1-0 all-time on their home ice against Canisius and
3-5-3 as the road team. In two neutral site games, the 2004
Atlantic Hockey Quarterfinals and the 1999 MAAC Hockey Semifinals,
Quinnipiac is 0-2-0.
Scouting Canisius
Canisius is currently 6-10-4 overall and 5-6-4 in Atlantic Hockey,
giving them a record of 1-4-0 against five non-conference teams.
Canisius has lost four straight and five of its last six games. The
Golden Griffins are led by Cory Conacher who has tallied a
team-high nine goals, to go along with nine assists, for a
team-best 18 points in 20 games played. Ben Danford leads Canisius
in assists with 11, while Vincent Scarsella (6-9--15), Kyle Gibbons
(6-8--14) and Eric Rex (5-8--13) round out the Griffins' top five
scorers. In goal, Dan Morrison has seen a majority of the minutes,
posting a 4-9-3 record with a 3.21 goals-against average and a .913
save percentage.
Best
At Closing It Out
Quinnipiac currently holds the longest active unbeaten streak when
leading after the second period in NCAA Division I men's ice
hockey. The Bobcats are 53-0-5 in their last 58 games in that
situation dating back to March 17, 2007. Miami was previous
unbeaten in 81 straight games (78-0-3) dating back to March 9, 2007
before giving up a lead in the third period in a loss to Notre Dame
on Dec. 3, 2010.
Getting Ahead Early
Quinnipiac is 10-1-1 this season in the 11 games in which it has
scored first.
Among The National Leaders
Eric Hartzell currently ranks among the NCAA Division I goalie
leaders in goals-against average, save percentage and winning
percentage. He ranks 22nd nationally in GAA (2.32), seventh in save
percentage (.930) while his 8-3-1 record give him a .708 winning
percentage, good for 11th nationally.
Staying Out Of Trouble
Quinnipiac is averaging the 10th fewest penalty minutes in NCAA
Division I men's ice hockey at 11.0 per game after being whistled
for 254 minutes over 23 games. Against Cornell on Saturday, Jan. 8,
Quinnipiac managed to stay out of the penalty box completely,
posting no penalty minutes for the first time this season.
Special Teams
Quinnipiac has allowed 19 power play goals in 23 games this season,
killing 69 of 88 of the opponents' man-advantage opportunities. The
Bobcats haven't given up a power-play goal in their last three
games and have allowed four over their last nine outings.
The
Leader
Scott Zurevinski's goal with seven seconds remaining in regulation
against Cornell on Saturday, Jan. 8 sent the game to overtime and
gave Zurevinski the team lead with nine goals this season.
