Big
Weekend For The Bobcats
The Quinnipiac University men's ice hockey team will host a pair of
nationally-ranked opponents in No. 9/10 Rensselaer on Friday, Feb.
4 and No. 11/12 Union on Saturday, Feb. 5. Both games at the TD
Bank Sports Center are tabbed for a 7 p.m. start. Bobcat fans

All-Time Against Rensselaer
Quinnipiac and RPI have met 15 times since their first match-up on
Oct. 16, 1999, with the Bobcats posting a 5-6-4 all-time record
against the Engineers. The Bobcats lost the first four meetings
before posting a seven-game undefeated streak (5-0-2) against Union
from 2006 through 2009. Quinnipiac has not defeated RPI in their
last three meetings (0-2-1) and are 1-1-3 all-time on their home
ice against the Engineers.
Scouting The Engineers
RPI is currently 17-6-3 overall and 9-5-0 in ECAC Hockey, good for
fourth place in the league standings. The Engineers are currently
ranked 9th in the USCHO.com and 10th in the USA Today/USA Hockey
Magazine Division I polls. RPI has won eight of its last 10 games,
including five straight. In that run was a win agianst then
nationally ranked No. 1 Yale last week. RPI is led by Chase
Polacek, who has totaled 16 goals and 23 assists for 39 points this
season. Nick Bailen (8-19--27) and Tyler Helfrich (12-14--26) give
the Engineers a trio of 20-point scorers. In all, RPI boasts 10
players to reach double figures this season. Allen York has played
95% of the minutes in goal for the Engineers this season, posting a
16-6-3 mark with a .932 save percentage and a 1.86 goals against
average.
All-Time Against Union
Quinnipiac and Union have faced each other 18 time since their
first match-up on Dec. 3, 2000, with the Dutchmen winning nine
games in the all-time series, which also featured one tie. Last
season, the two teams squared off in the ECAC Hockey Tournament
Quarterfinals, with the Dutchment winning the last two games to
advance. Quinnipiac took the first game in the series, a five
overtime thriller that ended with a goal from Greg Holt that capped
off the longest game in college hockey history. Quinnipiac is 4-3-0
all-time on its home ice against Union.
Scouting The Dutchmen
Union is currently 18-7-3 overall and 10-3-1 in ECAC Hockey play,
good for second place in the league standings. The Dutchmen are
currently ranked 11th in the USCHO.com and 12th in the USA
Today/USA Hockey Magazine Division I polls. Winners of eight of
their last 10 games, Union has won three straight, including a win
over previous ranked No. 1 Yale. Union is led by a core of seven
20-point scorers, headlined by Jeremy Walsh (13 goals - 17 assists
-- 30 points), and followed by Daniel Carr (15-13--28), Kelly Zajac
(8-18--26), Josh Jooris (8-17--25), Wayne Simpson (9-13--22), Mat
Bodie (4-18--22) and Adam Presizniuk (8-13--21). Keith Kinkaid has
logged close to 90% of the minutes in goal for the Dutchment,
posting a 17-7-2 record (.692 win percentage) with a 1.93
goals-against average and a .923 save percentage.
Dynamic Duo
Jeremy Langlois joins Scott Zurevinski as the only two
players on the Bobcats' roster with multiple two-goal games this
season.
Let's Check The Leaderboard
Langlois currently leads the Bobcats in goals (13) and points (18)
while second-year defenseman Loren Barron leads all Quinnipiac
skaters with 13 assists. Scott Zurevinski checks in behind Langlois
(11-6--17), followed by freshmen twins Connor (7-9--16) and Kellen
Jones (5-11--16).
Good
Company
Barron is the first Quinnipiac defenseman to lead the team in
assists since former All-American Reid Cashman did it in 2006-07.
Cashman led the team in apples all four years at QU.
Stay
Hot Langer
Langlois led Quinnipiac to a 3-1-3 record for the month of January
with a team-best seven goals for a team-leading seven points for
the month.
Let's Keep It Going Boys
Quinnipiac finished up the first half of the season with a 5-2 loss
to Providence on Dec. 11. Since then, the Bobcats are 5-3-1 in nine
games and have outscored their opponents 27-17.
Streak Worth Noting
The Bobcats' five-game unbeaten streak (3-0-2) is their longest
since November of last season.
Against Ranked Teams
With No. 11/12 Union and No. 9/10 RPI coming to Hamden this
weekend, Quinnipiac will face its fifth and sixth nationally-ranked
opponent this season. The Bobcats are 4-3-1 in eight games against
teams ranked in the national polls.
Best
At Closing It Out
Quinnipiac currently holds the longest active unbeaten streak when
leading after the second period in NCAA Division I men's ice
hockey. The Bobcats are 54-0-5 in their last 59 games in that
situation dating back to March 17, 2007. Miami was previous
unbeaten in 81 straight games (78-0-3) dating back to March 9, 2007
before giving up a lead in the third period in a loss to Notre Dame
on Dec. 3, 2010.
Getting Ahead Early
Quinnipiac is 12-1-3 this season in the 16 games in which it has
scored first.
