Quinnipiac Men's Ice Hockey Falls To No. 17 Dartmouth, 3-1
HANOVER,
N.H. - The Quinnipiac men's ice hockey team lost to
nationally-ranked No. 17 Dartmouth, 3-1, in an ECAC Hockey match-up
at Thompson Arena in Hanover, N.H. Connor Jones (Montrose, British
Columbia) scored his ninth goal of the season. Quinnipiac drops to
13-12-5 overall and 6-8-4 in ECAC Hockey play while Dartmouth
improves to 14-7-3 overall and 10-5-2 in ECAC Hockey action.
Dartmouth's Alex Goodship put the Big Green on the board first with
his third goal of the season, a shorthanded marker that beat
Quinnipiac goalie Eric Hartzell (White Bear Lake, Minn.) five-hole.
Down a player after a boarding call just 37 seconds into the
period, Goodship put a shot on goal through traffic that found
daylight between Hartzell's pads to put Dartmouth on top, 1-0.
Nick Walsh scored Dartmouth's second goal of the game, with 6:15
remaining in the second period, with a man-advantage. On the power
play, Evan Stephans put a shot on goal that was deflected in front
of the net by Joe Stejskal to the far post, to Hartzell's left.
Stejskal was waiting to re-direct the shot past Hartzell to put
Dartmouth out in front, 2-0.
Freshman Connor Jones (Montrose, British Columbia) scored with just
over five minutes to play in regulation. The power-play goal, which
cut Dartmouth's lead in half, was assisted on by Kellen Jones
(Montrose, British Columbia) and John Dunbar (Calgary, Alberta).
Jones took a pass from Kellen to the left of the Dartmouth goal and
beat Dartmouth goalie James Mello to his stick side to make the
score, 2-1. Connor and twin Kellen run their team-best active point
streak to four games. It's also the longest streak this season for
the Bobcats.
Dartmouth's Paul Lee added an empty net goal with a little more
than a minute to play in the game.
Quinnipiac is back in action next weekend when it plays Yale for
the Heroes' Hat on Friday, Feb. 18 at 8 p.m. in an ECAC Hockey
match-up that can be seen on Comcast SportsNet New England as well
as CPTV. The Bobcats will also host Brown on Saturday, Feb. 19 for
Senior Night at 7 p.m. at the TD Bank Sports Center in Hamden,
Conn.
