Conn. - The Quinnipiac University men's ice hockey team lost to
nationally-ranked No. 3/3 Yale University, 6-1, in an ECAC Hockey
match-up at the TD Bank Sports Center in Hamden, Conn. Quinnipiac
drops to 6-9-4 in ECAC Hockey and 13-13-5 overall. Yale improves to
21-5-0 overall and 15-4-0 in league play.
Quinnipiac freshman Kellen Jones (Montrose, British Columbia)
scored the Bobcats only goal of the game, with assists going to
Scott Zurevinski (Saskatoon, Saskatchewan) and Loren Barron
(Glendora, Calif.) The goal was Jones' seventh of the season as
Zurevinski picks up his ninth of the season and Barron is credited
with his team-leading 14th assist of the year.
Yale used a pair of goals in the first period to jump out to a 2-0 lead heading into the first intermission. Ken Trentowski scored his first goal of the year with assists credited to Kenny Agostino and Chad Ziegler. Kevin Limbert then scored his sixth goal of the season, a short-handed marker, with 14 seconds remaining in the period on an assist from Chris Cahill.
Yale scored twice more in the first 11 minutes of the second period
to jump out to a 4-0 lead. Jimmy Martin and Denny Kearney both
scored for the Bulldogs before Jones' goal stopped Yale's four-goal
run. Brian O'Neill answered with his 16th goal of the season, this
one coming on the power play to push Yale's lead to 5-1. Kearney
added his second goal of the year, another short-handed goal, on an
empty net to give Yale a 6-1 cushion.
Eric Hartzell (White Bear Lake, Minn.) stopped 23 shots in goal
while Yale's Ryan Rondeau had 30 saves in the win.
Quinnipiac is back in action on Saturday, Feb. 19 when it hosts
Brown at 7 p.m. at the TD Bank Sports Center in Hamden, Conn.
Quinnipiac will honor six seniors before the game as part of Senior
Night festivities.
