Scouting The Saints
St. Lawrence is currently 10-15-3 overall and 6-9-1 in ECAC Hockey. SLU's 13 ECAC Hockey points place them in a tie for ninth place in the league standings, and trailing Dartmouth and Yale (15 pts) for seventh place and the Bobcats in sixth (14 pts). Kyle Flanagan leads the Saints in goals (11), assists (18) and points (29) through 20 games played. Flanagan scored the game-winner in overtime against the Bobcats in a 1-0 tie on Nov. 12. Sophomore Greg Carey checks in with nine goals and 15 assists for 23 points, while he also leads the team with seven goals against ECAC Hockey competition. In goal, Matt Weninger is 9-12-3 with a 3.16 goals-against average and a .897 save percentage.
The Con(nor) Man
Leading scorer Connor Jones saw his six-game scoring streak halted when he failed to register a point against Harvard on Feb. 3. The second-year Bobcat responded with one of Quinnipiac's two goals in a 2-1 win against Dartmouth on Feb. 4.
The Bryce Is Right
Bryce Van Brabant tallied his third goal of his first season at Quinnipiac in the Bobcats' 6-3 loss to Harvard on Feb. 3. Van Brabant's goal was his first since Nov. 1 and his first point since Dec. 9.
Big Ben
Ben Arnt's goal against Dartmouth on Feb. 4 gave Quinnipac a two-goal lead after the first period, and would stand up as the game-winner in the end. It was Arnt's fourth goal of the year, and his first since Oct. 16 - a span of 17 games.
Elite Company
With two assists against Harvard, following a goal-and-an-assist game against Colgate, Matthew Peca joined Connor Jones and Scott Zurevinski as the only players to post back-to-back multiple-point games this season. Jones has accomplished the feat twice (Oct. 12 & 15; Nov. 1 & 4) while Zurevinski did it on Oct. 15-16.
Quinnipiac's January Athlete of the Month
Junior Zack Currie was named Quinnipiac's January Athlete of the Month. The third-year Bobcat currently leads all Quinnipiac defenseman in points (7 goals, 7 assists, 14 points) thanks in large part to a strong January in which the junior scored two goals and assisted on four more. Currie was the only Bobcat in Quinnipiac's line-up to produce two multiple-point games in QU's four games for the month. He assisted on both goals in a 2-1 upset of ECAC Hockey rival and nationally-ranked No. 20 Yale, before scoring once and assisting on another goal in a 7-1 route of No. 12 Colgate. Currie added assists against Brown and Cornell, making him one of two players on Quinnipiac's roster to tally a point in all four games this month.
Power Outage
Loren Barron's goal against Yale on Friday, Jan. 6, was just the fifth power play goal allowed by the nationally-ranked Bulldogs this year.
