Quinnipiac Men's Ice Hockey Takes On No. 8/8 Union At Messa Rink On Saturday, Feb. 18
SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – The Quinnipiac men's ice hockey team will face nationally-ranked No. 8/8 Union, who also sits in first place in the ECAC Hockey standings, on Saturday, Feb. 18 at 7:07 p.m. at Messa Rink in Schenectady, N.Y. Quinnipiac enters the game at 16-10-5 overall and 8-7-4 (20 pts) in ECAC Hockey, good for fifth place in the league standings. The game is available live on Time Warner Cable, where available. As the ECAC Hockey rankings stand, Quinnipiac can finish no higher than third and no lower than ninth. A win tonight against Union, or two points in their final three games, would clinch home ice for the Bobcats for the upcoming ECAC Hockey Championship Tournament.
Quinnipiac is coming off a crucial 3-1 ECAC Hockey win at Rensselaer on Friday, Feb. 17 and will look for its third straight win when they take on the Dutchmen. The Bobcats benefitted from goals from Reese Rolheiser (Edmonton, Alberta), Zack Currie (Victoria, British Columbia) and Cory Hibbeler (St. Louis, Mo.). Rolheiser and Hibbeler also had assists while Currie's came on the power play. Loren Barron (Glendora, Calif.) had two assists while freshman stand-out Matthew Peca (Petawawa, Ontario) also had an assist. Goalie Eric Hartzell (White Bear Lake, Minn.) had a strong outing, turning away 24 of RPI's 25 shots for the night for the win.
Quinnipiac neutralized the RPI power play on Friday night, killing all five man-advantage opportunities for the Engineers. Quinnipiac has not allowed a power play goal since Jan. 14 in a 7-1 win against Colgate, a streak that spans the Bobcats' last five games. Quinnipiac is currently ranked 2nd in NCAA Division I men's ice hockey with a 89.8 penalty kill percentage.

Union is currently 18-6-7 overall and 12-3-4 (28 pts.) in ECAC Hockey play, good for first place in the league standings. The Dutchmen are coming off a 3-0 ECAC Hockey win against Princeton on Friday night as Daniel Ciampini, Shayne Gostisbehere and Josh Jooris all scored for Union while Troy Grosenick stopped all 18 shots on goal for the shut-out victory.
Quinnipiac will wrap-up the 2011-12 regular season next weekend when it hosts Brown on Friday, Feb. 24 and Yale on Saturday, Feb. 25. Prior to the start of the Bobcats' tilt against Brown, Quinnipiac will hold Senior Night ceremonies. On Saturday, the 10th Annual Heroes Hat game will be played between the Bobcats and Bulldogs, live on SportsNet New York (SNY) at 7:07 p.m.
