Quinnipiac men's ice hockey senior Spencer Heichman (Yorba Linda, Calif.) has been named as the team's assistant captain, as announced by head coach Rand Pecknold.
"Spencer is very deserving of his appointment as an assistant captain," Pecknold said. "He competes, works hard, handles his academic responsibilites and is very well respected within our locker room."
Heichman adds the "A" to his sweater in his fourth season with the Bobcats. Captain Scott Zurevinski and assistant captain Mike Glaicar also served in that capacity last season.
Heichman has been a mainstay in the Bobcats' lineup since arriving from Yorba Linda, Calif. in 2008-09. This season, he has totaled six points in 13 games on five goals and one assist. His two-goal effort against Canisius on Oct. 16 helped Quinnipiac to a 4-0 win against the Griffs, while he also added goals against Ohio State, Robert Morris and Dartmouth.
For his career, Heichman has played in 125 games, scoring 16 goals and assisting on 18 more for 34 career points. He is also a three-time ECAC Hockey All-Academic honoree and has been at the forefront of several Quinnipiac Positive Play programs. Before coming to Quinnipiac, Heichman played for the Sioux City Musketeers of the United States Hockey League (USHL), where he led the team in goals (23) while ranking third in total points (47).
