The Quinnipiac men's ice hockey team - idle for two weeks before its next ECAC Hockey weekend against Harvard and Dartmouth - was highlighted on Insidecollegehockey.com in a featured penned by Joe Gladiszewski. The Bobcats were also ranked 20th in the latest INCH Power Rankings. Additionally, the Bobcats are ranked 25th in the PairWise Rankings and are receiving 24 votes in the latest USCHO.com Division I poll.
Quinnipiac is in the midst of a rare two-week break in late January, due to a scheduling conflict with a non-conference opponent as well as the final exam schedule of ECAC Hockey travel partner Princeton. The Bobcats cruised to a 7-1 win against Colgate in their last time out on Jan. 14 and have lost just twice in their last 11 games (6-2-3), a 3-2 loss to Cornell on Jan. 13 and a 4-1 loss to Nebraska Omaha on Dec. 31. Out of those 11 games, Quinnipiac is 4-2-1 in its last seven ECAC Hockey games, and currently sit in third place in the ECAC Hockey standings with 14 points at 5-5-4.
Connor Jones (Montrose, British Columbia) has emerged as the Bobcats' points-leader, tallying 26 points - on five goals and 21 assists - in 10 games played. Jones is riding a six-game point streak, including a four-assist outing against Colgate in the Bobcats' six-goal victory. Twin and second-year linemate Kellen Jones had a four-point weekend in his last time out, tallying a goal and two assists in the win against Colgate. For the year, he's totaled six goals and 13 assists for 19 points. Jeremy Langlois (Tempe, Ariz.) is the Bobcats other 20-point scorer, as his 14 goals and eight assists give him 22 points on the year. Langlois has scored in two straight games.
Goalie Eric Hartzell (White Bear Lake, Minn.) is currently 7-5-5 with a .916 save percentage, while he is one of six goalies in NCAA Division I hockey with a 2.00 goals against average. Against ECAC Hockey competition, Hartzell is 4-3-4 with a .932 save percentage and a 1.68 goals-against average. Hartzell had a big weekend his last time out, denying 26 of Colgates's 27 shots on goal in the game, while the Raiders' lone goal actuallly came off a re-direct in front of the goal that could have easily sailed wide of the net. To date, Hartzell has held the opposition to two or fewer goals in 12 of his last 14 starts.
Quinnipiac returns to action on Friday, Feb. 3 when it hosts Harvard and Saturday, Feb. 4 when it hosts Dartmouth at High Point Solutions Arena at the TD Bank Sports Center. The Bobcats' tilt against Harvard can be seen live at 7:07 p.m. on New England Sports Network (NESN) in HD as well as SportsNet New York, also in HD.
