Langlois Lights The Lamp Twice To Lead No. 20 Bobcats To 3-1 Win Against Ohio State
HAMDEN, Conn. – Jeremy Langlois (Tempe, Ariz.) scored twice to lead the nationally-ranked No. 20 Quinnipiac men's ice hockey team to a 2-0 win against Ohio State. The Bobcats improve to 3-1-1 on the season while Ohio State drops to 1-2-1 overall.
"I thought we played really well," head coach Rand Pecknold said. "We did a lot of the little things well – we got pucks in, we got pucks out. That's a big win for us."
Clay Harvey (Gull Lake, Saskatchewan) assisted on both of Langlois' goals to push his team-leading assist total to four through the Bobcats first five games. Matthew Peca (Petawawa, Ontario) also scored for the Bobcats, giving him a goal in both games of the series. Eric Hartzell (White Bear Lake, Minn.) stopped 21 of 22 shots on goal to improve to 3-1-1 for the year.
Langlois' goal came 6:40 into the second period when he one-timed a pass from Clay Harvey (Gull Lake, Saskatchewan) top shelf to beat Ohio State goalie Collin Olson and give Quinnipiac a one-goal lead. Zack Currie (Victoria, British Columbia) fired a shot on net that was kicked away by Olson before Harvey beat a Buckeyes' defender to the corner and picked up the puck. Harvey spun, carried the puck into the face-off circle and dropped a pass back to Langlois at the point. The assist was Harvey's team-leading third of the season.
Peca scored his second goal of the series less than two minutes into the third period. With Ohio State on a five-minute power play, Peca broke-up a pass in the neutral zone, outskated a Buckeye player and ended up one-on-one with Olson. Peca skated through the face-off circle and flicked a shot over Olson's opposite shoulder to give the Bobcats a 2-0 lead.
"Obviously we would have like to win last night," Peca said. "But we'll take it. We would have like to sweep, but we played well and you have to be happy with the weekend."
With seven minutes to play, Ohio State scored a short-handed goal of their own when Max McCormick tipped a shot by Sam Jardine past Hartzell to move the Buckeyes to within a goal, 2-1.
Langlois added his second goal of the game, an empty-netter, with 11 seconds to play in the game.
Quinnipiac returns to action when it travels to Hyannis, Mass. on Saturday, Oct. 27 to face Colgate in a non-conference match-up as part of the Cape Cod Classic. The Bobcats return home on Tuesday, Nov. 6 to host American International at 7 p.m. Bobcat fans who wear their "I Voted Today" sticker will receive free admission, as well as all accompanying minors. The Bobcats will also host Colgate and Cornell on Oct. 9-10, respectively, for their first ECAC Hockey action of the year.
