The Quinnipiac University men's ice hockey team visited the city of Venice on the sixth day of its 11-day tour of Italy. The Bobcats were off on Friday, Aug. 16, and will return to action on Saturday, Aug. 17 and Sunday, Aug. 18 when they take on Asiago in a two-game Challenge Cup Series.
The Bobcats traveled 1 1/2 hours from their host town of Bassano Del Grappa, arriving in Venice just before noon. They toured several landmarks, including the World Famous Piazza San Marco, the square which was featured in such movies as The Italian Job and Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. "St. Mark's Square" is also home to St. Mark's Basilica as well as Piazzetta Giovanni XXIII as well as St. Mark's Clocktower, built in 1499, which provided a view of all of Venice from the top.
Several players, coaches, staff and families in attendance on the trip were also fortunate enough to board a gondola on the Grand Canal for a tour of city. In addition, several players also bought sketches and paintings which were being sold by the artists on the dock of the city before boarding their watertaxi for Bassano.
