Quinnipiac men's ice hockey goalie Michael Garteig has been named the ECAC Hockey Goalie of the Month for October, announced by the league office today.
Garteig compiled a NCAA Division I leading 418:05 minutes across a national-high seven games. Garteig also leads the country with six wins, while his 1.72 goals-against average ranks 13th. Of the three ECAC Hockey goalies to start five or more games, Garteig leads the trio in shots faced (134), saves (122), and GAA (1.72). Garteig also boasts a .857 winning percentage (6-1-0), and is currently on a six-game winning streak and has allowed two or fewer goals in five of his seven games this year.
Garteig's honor as ECAC Hockey's top goalie for the month marks the fourth time since the award's inception for the 2011-12 season that a Quinnipiac netminder has won the award. Former All-American, Hobey Baker Finalist, and ECAC Hockey Player and Goalie of the Year Eric Hartzell won the award three times in 2012-13. In 2011-12, Jeremy Langlois earned player of the month honors for October while Matthew Peca won the rookie of the month award.
Nationally-ranked No. 7 Quinnipiac will travel to Hamilton, N.Y. on Friday, Nov. 1 to take on Colgate at 7 p.m. at Starr Rink. On Saturday, Nov. 2, the Bobcats will play at No. 14 Cornell's Lynah Rink at 7 p.m.
