Quinnipiac sophomore goalie Michael Garteig (Prince George, British Columbia) has been named the ECAC Hockey Goalie of the Week, as announced by the league office on Wednesday, Jan. 1.
Garteig was 1-0-1 with a .936 save percentage and a 0.96 goals-against average at the UConn Hockey Classic. Garteig held on in a 2-2 tie against UMass, stopping 19-of-21 shots on goal. He also recorded two saves in the Bobcats 2-0 shootout win. On Monday, Garteig denied Sacred Heart of all 12 shots on goal for his NCAA-leading 4th shutout of the season in a 5-0 win.
For the year, Garteig is 14-3-4 with a 1.79 GAA and a .908 save percentage. His four shutouts this season are currently tied for the NCAA Division I lead, as well as his 14 victories and 1,271:48 minutes in net.
The honor is Garteig's fourth of the season, the most among all ECAC Hockey goalies. Garteig previously won the weekly honors on Oct. 22, Nov. 5 and Nov. 19.
The nationally-ranked No. 8 Quinnipiac men's ice hockey team will host the University of Maine on Friday, Jan. 3, 2014 at High Point Solutions Arena at the TD Bank Sports Center in Hamden, Conn. Bobcat fans can tune-in to the New England Sports Network (NESN) on Friday night to watch the Bobcats battle the Maine Black Bears at 7 p.m. NESN is availble throughout New England, including Connecticut and Maine.
