Nationally-ranked Quinnipiac men's ice hockey retained its No. 3 ranking for the second consecutive week, while also being ranked for the 17th consecutive week, in the USCHO.com and USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Division I Polls which were released on Monday, Feb. 3, 2014.
Quinnipiac is currently 19-4-5 overall and 9-2-3 in ECAC Hockey play, good for 21 points and second-place in the league standings. The Bobcats are also third in the PairWise Rankings, the system which attempts to mimic the method used by the NCAA Selection Committee to determine participants for the NCAA Division I men's hockey tournament.
Quinnipiac's only contest of the past week came in Hanover, N.H. in the form of an 8-1 throttling of ECAC Hockey foe Dartmouth College. The Bobcats saw a pair of two-goal outings from Connor Jones (Montrose, British Columbia) and Travis St. Denis (Trail, British Columbia) as well as a three-point night - one goal, two assists - from Matthew Peca (Petawawa, Ontario). In addition, Jordan Samuels-Thomas (West Hartford, Conn.) had a goal and an assist while passing the 100-point mark for his career. Bryce Van Brabant (Morinville, Ontario) scored his 11th goal of the season while Tommy Schutt (Chanhassan, Minn.) scored his first career goal.
Quinnipiac returns to action next weekend when it hosts Clarkson on Friday, Feb. 7 and St. Lawrence on Saturday, Feb. 8 at High Point Solutions Arena at the TD Bank Sports Center in Hamden, Conn. Both games are set for a 7 p.m. start.
