BOSTON, Mass. – Freshman Sam Anas (Potomac, Md.) of the Quinnipiac University men's ice hockey team was tabbed George C. Carens Rookie of the Year, announced by the New England Hockey Writers Association on Wednesday, April 2, 2014. Division I coaches and respective media outlets throughout New England select the All-Star teams and the major award-winners.
Anas led the Bobcats in scoring with 22-21-43 totals in his breakout freshman campaign. Anas leads the nation in points per game among rookies with 1.07 and was recently tabbed the ECAC Hockey Co-Rookie and the College Hockey News Rookie of the Year for his offensive efforts.
Anas had multiple points in 12 games this year, including a season-high of four in a 7-2 win at Colgate (11/1). He also had a pair of three-point outings, when he tallied a goal and an assist at Alaska Fairbanks (12/12) and against RPI (1/11). Three of Anas' goals were game-winners as well.
Quinnipiac finished the season 24-10-6, losing in the First Round of the NCAA tournament last Friday. It was Quinnipiac's third straight 20-win season.
This year's banquet will be held on Wednesday, April 16 at the Prince Restaurant in Saugus, Mass. The banquet will start at 6 p.m. All awards and All-Star teams will be presented at the gala.
