Quinnipiac Men's Ice Hockey Names Dan Federico and Matthew Peca As Co-Captains For 2014-15

At the program's annual awards banquet, Quinnipiac men's ice hockey head coach Rand Pecknold announced that Dan Federico (Acton, Massachusetts) and Matthew Peca (Petawawa, Ontario) will serve as co-captains for the 2014-15 season.

Peca led Quinnipiac in assists in his third year with the Bobcats, passing out 26 for the year to go along with 13 goals for 38 points for the year. Peca also became the 32nd player in program history -and the first junior since Brandon Wong in 2011 - to reach the 100-point mark. For his career, Peca has tallied 35 goals and 72 assists for 107 points in 118 career games. Peca was selected by the Tampa Bay Lightning in the seventh round of the 2011 NHL Draft. Peca also earned 2013 NCAA Tournament East Regional Most Valuable Player honors after totaling four goals and an assist in helping Quinnipiac advance to the 2013 NCAA Frozen Four. Against Union, in the regional, Peca scored three goals in 3:12 for the fastest hat trick in NCAA Tournament history.

Federico has established himself as one of the top defensive players in ECAC Hockey as well as NCAA Division I men's ice hockey. In 2013-14, Federico was a finalist for the ECAC Hockey Best Defensive Defenseman Award. Federico tied for the ECAC Hockey lead with a plus/minus rating of +19 in overall contests. He is one of 13 players in ECAC Hockey with 50 or more blocked shots for the year. He often generated points from his defensive play where he ranked 16th among all ECAC Hockey defensemen with 14 points, on the strength of one goal and a career-best 13 assists. Federico scored his first career goal in a 7-2 win at Colgate on 11/1 and registered an assist on the game-winning goals in both a 4-3 win against Bentley on 10/22 and versus Maine on 1/3.
