The Quinnipiac University men's lacrosse team plays host to Air Force, Saturday, in its home and Great Western Lacrosse League opener. The Bobcats are coming off a 7-3 loss at No. 18 Brown, while the Falcons lost last time out at Army, 14-9. The Bobcats won an 11-10 overtime thriller last time against Air Force, April 13, in USAFA, Colo. Quinnipiac tied the game with nine seconds left in regulation on a Bill Hayes goal, while Todd Kaiser scored the game-winning goal with 1:40 left in overtime.
Scouting the Air Force Falcons
The Falcons, under first-year head coach Eric Seremet, rank 23rd in the nation in scoring offense at 9.8 goals per game. They're also 26th in man-down defense, holding opponents off the scoreboard 68.2 percent of the time. Vinny Sandtorv is the Falcons' leading scorer with 11 goals (2.2 goals per game, 45th-NCAA). Griffin Nevitt and Ridge Flick are tied for the team lead in assists with five apiece. Nevitt has also scored six goals, while Flick has five. K.J. Landgraf, the GWLL Player of the Week on March 3, has scored seven goals. Matt Sanders has seen the majority of time in net, allowing compiling a 9.19 goals-against average and a .479 save percentage.
Oppenheimer: The Right Way To Play
Jack Oppenheimer owns the team lead in goals (7) and points (11), and is second in assists (4). After opening the season with a goal and four assists against Wagner, Oppenheimer followed with three goals at St. John's, two at Lafayette and another at Brown.
Shots Bouncing Off Benzing
Kevin Benzing ranks 19th in the nation in goals-against average (8.3) and 22nd in save percentage (.563). On March 6, he made 17 saves and held No. 18 Brown to just seven goals.
The Bobcats got a goal apiece from Alex DeAlmeida, Zach Dendas, and Ted Dimond, Feb. 28, at Lafayette. Dendas and Dimond also added an assist each.
Dendas Delivers; Kerr Connects
Zach Dendas and Garett Kerr scored twice each in the Bobcats' Feb. 21 loss at St. John's. Dendas also added an assist.
Dimond Sparkles In Opener
Junior Ted Dimond scored three goals to lead the Bobcats to a 13-5 win at Wagner, Feb. 14. Dimond led the Bobcats with 17 goals in 2008.
Gast From the Past
After missing all of last season due to injury, Mike Gast scored two goals in his return to the Bobcats' line-up, Feb. 14 at Wagner.
Benzing Begins Strong
Goalie Kevin Benzing stopped 15 shots, while allowing just five goals at Wagner.
Mullaney Picks Up His Game
Ben Mullaney scooped up seven ground balls and won 12-of-20 face-offs in the Bobcats' season opener at Wagner.
Top Cats Return
Top point scorers Gary Messina, Ted Dimond and Garett Kerr all return for the Bobcats. Messina led Quinnipiac with 26 points, including 10 goals and a team-high 16 assists last season. Dimond scored a team-high 17 goals, while Kerr added 16 goals.

2008 All-GWLL Second Team selection Drew Maceranka returns to the Bobcats as an assistant coach. Maceranka anchored the Quinnipiac defense last season and earned a spot on the North team at the USILA North/South All-Star Game.
The Bobcats return to non-conference action with a Wednesday night tilt at Providence. The game is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. at the Friar Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex.
