Men's Lacrosse Names 2011 Captains

HAMDEN, Conn. - Quinnipiac University Men's Lacrosse Head Coach Eric Fekete has announced that rising seniors Kevin Benzing (Severna Park, Md.), Jake Glebocki (Wilbraham, Mass.) and Christian Haggerty (West Nyack, N.Y.) have been selected as team captains for the 2011 season. Glebocki and Haggerty were named to the All-Northeast Conference Second Team, while Benzing took All-ECAC Lacrosse Second Team honors this past season.

"Kevin, Jake and Christian have been great leaders, both on and off the field in their time here at Quinnipiac," said Fekete. "I have no doubt that they'll continue to be a positive influence on our team as captains next year."

Benzing compiled an 8.69 goals-against average (15th-NCAA) and a .552 save percentage (20th-NCAA) in posting a 7-6 record in 2010. The highlight of Benzing's season came March 20 at Hobart, when he made 21 saves in securing the 9-7 victory for the Bobcats. For his effort, Benzing was named ECAC Defensive Player of the Week. Benzing also picked up 50 ground balls on the season, the second time in three years in which he's scooped up at least 50.

Glebocki anchored a Bobcats defense that held the opposition to just 8.57 goals per game. Starting all 14 games for Quinnipiac, he picked up 27 ground balls on the season.

Haggerty led the Bobcats in both points (45) and assists (25) in 2010. Haggerty's 25 assists rank tied for second in Quinnipiac single-season history, while he became just the fourth Quinnipiac player to reach both 20 goals and 20 assists in a single season. Haggerty joined Joe Baglio (49 G, 29 A in 2001) as the only other Quinnipiac player with a 20-20 season at Division I, while Brian Perry (33 G, 25 A in 1998) and P.J. Gillard (24 G, 21 A in 1995) achieved the feat at the Division II level.
