Brown Defeats Men's Lacrosse, 13-4, In Season Opener

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Kevin Kelly (Redding, Conn.) scored twice but the Quinnipiac University men's lacrosse team fell in its season opener, 13-4, Saturday afternoon at Brown. With the loss, the Bobcats fall to 0-1, while the Bears are now 1-0.

Jack Oppenheimer (Conshohocken, Pa.) and Billy Alessi (Branford, Conn.) each added a goal for the Bobcats, while Christian Haggerty (West Nyack, N.Y.) and Matt Minor (South Hadley, Mass.) had assists. Kevin Benzing (Severna Park, Md.) made 10 saves in defeat.

Andrew Feinberg and Parker Brown led Brown with four goals apiece. Brown also had three assists, while Feinberg had two. Matt Chriss took the win in net, making 14 saves.

Brown scored the game's first six goals before Oppenheimer scored at the 6:33 mark of the second quarter. The Bears' lead extended to 8-1, before Kelly scored his first goal at the 5:59 mark of the third quarter.

After the teams exchanged goals, including Alessi's marker at the 10:35 mark of the fourth, Brown reeled off four straight goals to make it 13-3. Kelly scored his second of the game with one second left in regulation to account for the 13-4 final score.

The Bobcats return to action Tuesday, when they face Fairfield. Opening face-off from Lessing Field in Fairfield is scheduled for 7 p.m.
