Kevin Benzing, Dylan Webster Earn NEC Weekly Honors

HAMDEN, Conn. - Quinnipiac University senior men's lacrosse goalie Kevin Benzing (Severna Park, Md.) and freshman midfielder Dylan Webster (Brampton, Ontario) have been named the Northeast Conference Defensive Player and Rookie of the Week, respectively. The award is the third of the year for Benzing, while Webster takes the rookie honor for the sixth time in the last eight weeks. The six Rookie of the Week awards are easily the most by an NEC freshman in the two years of the honor, tripling the prior high of two, established by two different players last season and Bryant's Dan Sipperly this season. Benzing's three honors are also the most by any defensive player this season.

Benzing and the Bobcats' defense stymied the Sacred Heart offense for the nearly 55 minutes that the Quinnipiac goalie played. Benzing held the Pioneers to just four goals, while making 10 saves, causing one turnover and scooping up five ground balls. In the victory, Benzing reached 500 career saves, becoming just the second Quinnipiac player to reach the feat.

Bouncing back from being held scoreless for the first time in eight games, Webster totaled a career-high five points on three goals and two assists against Sacred Heart. He also won 11-of-21 face-off opportunities, resulting in five ground balls, and caused one turnover. In just his first year with the Bobcats, Webster ranks first on the team in face-off percentage (.527), third in goals (14) and fourth in points (22).

The Bobcats conclude regular-season NEC action Saturday, when they travel to Staten Island, N.Y., to face Wagner. Opening face-off from Wagner College Stadium is scheduled for 1 p.m.
