SOMERSET, N.J. – Freshman Matt Diehl (Towson, Md.) and senior Chris Coppolecchia (Somers, N.Y.) of the Quinnipiac University men's lacrosse team were awarded weekly honors by the Northeast Conference, announced on Monday, April 2, 2012 by the league office. Diehl earned his first career NEC Player/Rookie of the Week accolade, while Coppolecchia was tabbed the NEC Defensive Player of the Week.

"I am very proud of the entire team's play this weekend," said Head Coach Eric Fekete. "Both Matt and Chris were tremendous players and leaders. Matt was a dynamic player with outstanding intelligence and anticipation. Chris set the tone on the defensive side. His experience and poise under pressure make us a much stronger team and his game was excellent Saturday."

Matt Diehl scored five goals, including the game-winner, and totaled six points as the Bobcats topped defending league champion and preseason favorite Mount St. Mary's, 12-8, in a rematch of last year's title game. This week's NEC Offensive Player of the Week and Co-Rookie of the Week, Diehl marked career-highs in both goals and points in the victory. More importantly, though, four of his five goals came in the second half and helped QU pull away for the win. He has now scored at least one goal and tallied two or more points in his last four games, a stretch in which the Bobcats have gone 2-2 as a team.

Diehl leads the team in assists with 12, a number that has him tied for second in the Northeast Conference. In addition, he now sits fourth on the team in goals scored with eight.

Chris Coppolecchia caused five turnovers and scooped up eight ground balls in the road victory in Emmitsburg, Md. last weekend. In the NEC opener, the Somers, NY product played a major role on the defensive front, holding the Mount to nearly two goals below its season scoring average and producing four of his five takeaways in the second half. Thanks to his performance, Coppolecchia now owns the league lead in caused turnovers with 21. Coppolecchia also ranks third amongst the entire NCAA Division I field as well.

The Bobcats return to the turf next Saturday with another Northeast Conference showdown against Wagner. Faceoff is set for 1 p.m. at the QU Lacrosse Turf Field in Hamden, Conn. For all the latest news and information regarding the men's lacrosse program, please visit
