Gill Conners Named NEC Defensive Player of the Week

HAMDEN, Conn. – Junior Gill Conners (Ballston Spa, N.Y.) of the Quinnipiac University men's lacrosse team was named the Northeast Conference Defensive Player of the Week, announced on Monday, February 25, 2013. Conners suited up for the first time in a Bobcat uniform this past weekend and was instrumental in Quinnipiac's season-opening win at Brown.

Conners posted 20 saves in Quinnipiac's 9-7 season-opening win at Brown on Saturday. He made three stops in the first quarter and six in second. After the break, he matched his second quarter output with six more in the third before capping the game with five in the fourth, including one with just 31 ticks to play.  He also nabbed three ground balls in the win. The 20 saves are the most by a Quinnipiac goalie since the 2004 campaign.

Conners enrolled at Quinnipiac this past fall after a two-year stint at Onondaga Community College in New York. He was the National Goalie of the year and the Region 3 Defensive Player of the Year in 2012, while only allowing 30 goals all season (2.6 per game). He was also named the Defensive MVP in the NJCAA Tournament.

The Bobcats are back in action on Saturday, March 2nd at Detroit Mercy. Faceoff is scheduled for 11 a.m. at Titan Field in Detroit.
