HAMDEN, Conn. – Sophomore Michael Sagl (West Islip, N.Y.) of the nationally-ranked No. 20 Quinnipiac University men's lacrosse team was named the Northeast Conference Offensive Player of the Week, announced on Monday, March 4, 2013. Sagl provided the Bobcats with his third career hat trick on Saturday afternoon, helping Quinnipiac to a 12-10 win over Detroit Mercy.
Sagl paced the Bobcat offense with five points, scoring three goals, including one man-down, and dishing out two assists in the win. He opened the game with the team's first goal before netting one in the second and another one in the third. In the fourth, he showed off his playmaking abilities with a pair of assists, including one on the game-tying goal with 12:50 to play. Thanks to the victory, the Bobcats are now 2-0 for the first time since 2008. Additionally, the perfect start has earned them a spot in the USILA Men's Lacrosse Coaches' Poll this week, taking the No. 20-spot.
His five-point outing was one shy of his career high which he set last year with four goals and two assists against the Titans. Sagl already has 21 goals and 20 assists in a Bobcat uniform.
The Bobcats return to the turf on Friday, March 8th with a neutral-site showdown against Vermont. Quinnipiac heads down to Maryland for a 7:45 p.m. tilt against the Catamounts at Severna Park High School in Severna Park, Md.
