HAMDEN, Conn. – For the fourth time this season, junior Gill Conners (Ballston Spa, N.Y.) of the Quinnipiac University men's lacrosse team was named the Northeast Conference Defensive Player of the Week, announced on Monday, April 22, 2013. Conners has been one of the nation's best goalies this season and an instrumental piece to Quinnipiac's roster.
Conners was tested early and often as the junior goalie made 16 saves in an 11-10 win over Wagner, a victory that put the Bobcats back into the NEC Tournament. He made five saves in the first quarter, six in the second and then combined for five in the second half. Conners has 10 or more saves in each of QU's conference games, including two with 15 or more. With his performance, the NEC's save leader has 164 this season, which moved him into fourth place on Quinnipiac's all-time single-season saves list.
Conners is fifth in the nation and leads the NEC in saves per game (13.67) and is 17th in the nation and leads the NEC in saves percentage (.558).
Quinnipiac is back in action on Saturday, April 27 with its final game of the regular season. The Bobcats travel to Robert Morris University for an NEC tilt at 11:30 a.m. in Moon Township, Pa. With a win and a Bryant loss, Quinnipiac would host the NEC Tournament which is set for Thursday, May 2th and Saturday, May 4th.
