Conners, Corcoran Earn NEILA Honors; Conners Named New England’s Top Goalie

HAMDEN, Conn. – Two members of the Quinnipiac University men's lacrosse team that made a fifth straight postseason appearance have been named to the Division I all-region team selected by the 48 schools that belong to the New England Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (NEILA). Junior Gill Conners (Ballston Spa, N.Y.) was named the top goalie in New England while Pat Corcoran (Stratford, Conn.) garnered second team honors.

Conners, an All-NEC First Team selection, took it one step further with an All-NEILA First Team laurel in just his first year with the program. The Ballston Spa, N.Y. native was the team's catalyst all season long, totaling 195 saves and a .559 save percentage in 14 starts. Conners collected 10 or more saves in 12 of those games, which included seven with 15 or more and two games with 20. He was named NEC Defensive Player of the Week four times throughout the year and stopped nearly 60 percent of shots faced against conference opponents.

With his 195 saves, Conners sits in third place all-time among single-season save leaders at Quinnipiac. He ranked fifth in the nation in saves per game (13.96) and 16th in save percentage (.559). He was first and second, respectively, for each of those categories in the NEC.

Corcoran emerged as a lethal offensive weapon for Quinnipiac in his second year with the program. His breakout season consisted of 17 goals and 11 assists for a total of 28 points which had him tied for third on the team. Corcoran had two four-point efforts for the Bobcats this year. He tallied his second career hat trick and an assist against Fairfield on March 19th and scored a goal and factored in three others against Wagner on April 20th. He upped his career totals to 27 goals and 17 assists for 44 points.

The three NEILA major awards belonged to players from Bryant, Harvard and Providence College. The Bulldogs' Kevin Massa was tabbed D-I Player of the Year; Harvard's Devin Dwyer was named D-I Rookie of the Year; and the Friars' Chris Gabrielli was honored with the NEILA Coach of the Year award.
