Binkowski, Messina, Kostaras and Wilbur Selected to NEILA East/West All-Star Game

HAMDEN, Conn. – Four members of the Quinnipiac University men's lacrosse team – Jay Binkowski (Bethany, Conn.), Chris Messina (West Islip, N.Y.), Basil Kostaras (Southlake, Texas) and Brendan Wilbur (Hingham, Mass.) – have been selected to the New England Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (NEILA) East/West All-Star Game as announced on Thursday, May 23, 2013. The game will be played at 7 p.m. on Friday, May 31 at Merrimack College.

The all-star festivities feature the top Division I, II & III collegiate players throughout New England. Upwards to 40 players have been selected and will compete at Martone-Mejail Field in North Andover, Mass.

Binkowski anchored Quinnipiac's midfield this past season, which saw another NEC Tournament appearance. Offensively, the Bethany, Conn. native scored five goals and assisted on three others, while putting nearly 62 percent of his shots on frame. He also collected 15 groundballs and caused 12 turnovers – which tied him for the team lead in the latter category. He scored in five different games including the NEC Semifinals against Robert Morris (5/2).

Messina also blossomed into a prominant member of the Bobcats midfield in 2013. He scored four goals and handed out four assists, both serving as career highs for the West Islip, N.Y. native. Messina factored in two goals against Detroit Mercy (3/2) with a goal and an assist, but scored his biggest goal of the season against Sacred Heart (4/13). Messina scored his third goal of the season against the Pioneers which helped Quinnipiac earn a 13-12 win in triple overtime at Campus Field. He also collected 15 ground balls and caused 10 turnovers.

Kostaras tallied 28 points for the second time in his career, totaling 18 goals and 10 assists for the Bobcats. Kostaras ranks 14th all-time in goals scored (58), 12th in assists (33) and tied for 11th in points (91) after his four-year stint with the Bobcats. The Southlake, Texas native registered at least one point in 13 of the team's 14 games, which included 10 outings with multiple points. He also notched his third career hat trick in the win over Detroit Mercy (3/2) and had three assists in the NEC Semifinals against the Colonials (5/2).

Wilbur eclipsed the 20-point plateau against Sacred Heart when he torched the Pioneers with four points on two goals and two assists. He finished fourth on the team in scoring (19 goals, 8 assists, 27 points) and had multiple points in 10 games for the Bobcats. Wilbur's season was highlighted in the NEC Semifinals with a pair of goals late in the fourth quarter to close the gap with the Colonials. He also crossed the 50-point plateau for his career with two goals against Harvard on April 9th.
