HAMDEN, Conn. – The Quinnipiac University men's lacrosse team has climbed higher in the New England Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association's (NEILA) Weekly Poll as the Bobcats were ranked seventh in this week's edition, announced on Monday, April 7, 2014.
Quinnipiac scored wins over Stony Brook and Monmouth last week to jump over the .500 mark on the season. At 5-4, the Bobcats also own a .750 winning percentage in conference play, improving to 3-1 after posting a big win on the road against the Hawks on Saturday. It was the first meeting between the two teams.
Dylan Webster (Brampton, Ontario) and Michael Sagl (West Islip, N.Y.) led the attack for Quinnipiac. Webster netted five goals and handed out an assist to factor in seven of the team's 17 goals. Sagl also finished with six points, scoring twice while dishing out four assists. He extended his point streak to 28 straight games – a figure that is tied for 14th nationally for the longest active streaks.
Ryan Keenan (Oshawa, Ontario) had a career high five goals in the game, which featured three in the third quarter. Pat Corcoran (Stratford, Conn.) had five points on two goals and three assists, and Gill Conners (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) was stellar in net. He stopped 15 shots en route to a .625 save percentage.
The Stags of Fairfield University, who just claimed its highest national ranking in program history, corralled the top slot in the census. Yale was ranked second, while Harvard, UMass, and Bryant rounded out the first five. Brown, Quinnipiac and Providence finished out the weekly poll.
