Zach Vehar Named MAAC Men’s Lacrosse Rookie of the Week

HAMDEN, Conn. – After a sensational performance this past weekend, Zach Vehar (Hudson, Ohio) has been named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Men's Lacrosse Rookie of the Week, announced on Monday, April 14, 2014 by the league office.

Vehar played a huge role in Quinnipiac's six-goal fourth quarter comeback on Saturday afternoon against Canisius. He was 19-of-25 (.760) on the faceoff, a career high for the Hudson, Ohio native, while also collecting a career high 14 ground balls in the game. He was 6-of-7 from the X when Quinnipiac mounted its furious comeback in the final 15 minutes. In the first half, Vehar netted his second goal of the season as well.

Vehar has been a steady force in the circle this year, winning 56.5 percent of his faceoff attempts. That figure has him ranked 22nd in the nation and third among conference players. He also averaged 5.7 ground balls per game which is good enough for 27th in the country as well.

Quinnipiac is back in action against nationally-ranked Fairfield on Tuesday, April 15 at the QU Lacrosse Turf Complex. Faceoff is set for 4 p.m.
