Men’s Lacrosse Ranked Seventh in Weekly NEILA Poll

HAMDEN, Conn. – The Quinnipiac University men's lacrosse team was tabbed seventh in the latest New England Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (NEILA) Weekly Poll, announced by the board on Monday, April 14, 2014.

The Bobcats are 5-5 overall and 3-2 in MAAC play – having won three of their last four games. Most recently, Quinnipiac used a fourth quarter comeback to erase a large deficit, but was halted in the waning seconds in an 11-10 loss to Canisius. Michael Sagl (West Islip, N.Y.), Dylan Webster (Brampton, Ontario) and Matt Diehl (Towson, Md.) each had three points to lead the Bobcat attack. Sagl had a goal and two assists to extend his point streak to 29 straight games. Webster and Diehl each finished with two goals and an assist. Matt Kycia (West Hartford, Conn.) had two goals, while Tom Gilligan (Brookfield, Conn.), Ryan Keenan (Oshawa, Ontario), and Zach Vehar (Hudson, Ohio) finished off the Quinnipiac scoring summary with one apiece. Senior goalie Gill Conners (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) had seven saves in net.

Vehar was named MAAC Rookie of the Week for his effort. He was 19-of-25 (.760) on the faceoff, a career high for the Hudson, Ohio native, while also collecting a career high 14 ground balls in the game.

Fairfield and Yale finished in a tie for the top slot in the standings. Harvard was ranked third, UMass fourth and Bryant fifth. Brown, Quinnipiac and Providence rounded out the field of eight. Holy Cross received votes in the census.
