Brian Small joined the Quinnipiac men's lacrosse team as an Assistant Coach for the 2011 season. Small came to Quinnipiac from Northeast Conference rival Sacred Heart University, where he served as an Assistant Coach for the Pioneers for the 2009 and 2010 seasons.
While at Sacred Heart, Small assisted in all facets of the Pioneers' lacrosse program including a stint as the team's offensive coordinator in 2010, in addition to assisting in evaluation and recruitment of potential student athletes, defensive and man-down situations, goalie coaching, film exchange, academic and study hall coordinator, equipment managment, team travel, advanced scouting, film breakdown, practice planning, strength and conditioning and fundraising.
Small previously held an assistant coaching position at Ohio Wesleyan from 2008 to 2009 before joining Sacred Heart and was also the head varsity coach for Baltimore County Public Schools. Small has also served as an instructor at multiple camps including the Top 205 Rising Senior Lacrosse Camp, the University of North Carolina, Bucknell University, Sacred Heart University, Calvert Hall College High School, University of Denver, United States Military Academy, as well as the NEILA Underclassmen Showcase and the Chicago Metropolitan Underclassman Team Showcase.
Small is a former professional lacrosse player, suiting up for the Baltimore Bayhawks of the Major League Lacrosse League in 2006. He is a former student-athlete at Ohio Wesleyan where he was a four-year letterwinner for the men's lacrosse team from 2002 through 2005. While at Ohio Wesleyan, Small helped the squad to four consecutive North Coast Athletic Conference League Championships while earning 2003 NCAC All-Conference Honorable Mention, 2004 and 2005 All-NCAC First Team honors before being named a NCAA USILA All-American and playing in the North South Senior All-Star Game in 2005. Small earned a bachelors degree in sports management from Ohio Wesleyan in 2005 and is currently working towards a master's in education technology from the University of Maryland.
Prior to enrolling at Ohio Wesleyan, Small played lacrosse at Calvert Hall College High School in the prestigious Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association (MIAA) conference. He was a member of the Cardinals squad for four years under the direction of Head Coach Brian Kelly.
