Men's Soccer Defeats Saint Francis (Pa.), 2-0
LORETTO, Pa. Graciano Brito (Sao Nicolau, Cape Verde) scored both goals for the Bobcats as the Quinnipiac University men's soccer team defeated Saint Francis (Pa.) Sunday afternoon, 2-0. Brito continues to lead the Northeast Conference in goals and points as his 15th and 16th goals of the season give him 35 points. The win improves the Bobcats' conference mark to 4-2-1 with a 9-4-3 overall record. The Red Flash drops to 1-6-1 in NEC play and 4-11-2 overall with the loss.
Neither team was able to score in the first half as Freddy Hall (St. George, Bermuda) recorded one save and Saint Francis' Brad Williams stopped five Quinnipiac shots.
Brito broke the scoreless tie in the 57th minute of play as Hall kicked a high free ball up field. The senior midfielder collected the ball and split two defenders 10 yards outside the 18-yard box. Brito broke in alone on Williams, kicking the ball into the net for his 15th of the season. The assist was the first career point for Hall.
With 13 seconds remaining in the game, Brito scored his second of the game. Fabricio Silva (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) passed the ball up to a streaking Brito in the middle of the field. Williams moved out of his net to challenge the play, but Brito blasted a shot into the middle of the net to seal the 2-0 victory for the Bobcats.
Hall stopped four shots in the second half for a total of five in the game as he earned his fifth shutout of the season. Williams finished with seven saves as he allowed the two second-half goals.
Head Coach Eric Da Costa was pleased with his team's effort this weekend and in today's win, "This team has the most heart than any team I have ever coached."
