Scouting the Eagles
Boston College welcomes the Bobcats to Newton, Mass., for
the second time in three seasons. The last time these two teams met
was on Sept. 3, 2007, when the Bobcats knocked off the Eagles, 2-1,
for BC's first loss of the season. This year, the Eagles are 6-6
overall with wins over No. 11 Duke and No. 14 Boston University.
The team is led by Charlie Rugg's four goals and two assists for 10
points. Kyle Bekker is second on the Eagles with two goals and four
assists for eight points. Justin Luthy has played a majority of
time in net for BC this season, posting a goals-against average of
0.91 and a save percentage of .833 in 2009.
No Suprise Puns Here
Freshman Philip Suprise (Milwaukee, Wisc.) scored his
third, fourth and fifth goals of the season on Friday. The hat
trick was the first of the season for the Bobcats. Suprise's three
goals were all the offense Quinnipiac would need as they defeated
Bryant, 3-0, in the first-ever meeting between the two teams.
Helping Feet
Sophomore Matthew Rothbart (Cheshire, Conn.) earned his
first collegiate point as he assisted on the first Suprise goal in
the opening half. Junior Nick Pelicaen (Schoten, Belgium) made a
through pass between two defenders to set up the second goal, while
sophomore Durval Pereira (Cheshire, Conn.) collected his second
assist in as many games, making a quick pass to Surprise for the
third goal.
Four and Zero
Senior goalkeeper Freddy Hall (St. George, Bermuda)
continues to be the backbone of the 2009 Bobcats. Hall stopped all
four shots that he faced against the Bulldogs, pushing his
consecutive minutes streak without allowing an opponent to score to
290. This season, Hall has a goals-against average of 0.47 and a
top-three save percentage nationally at .933.
Xan's Time
With the Bobcats up 3-0 in the second half, head coach
Eric Da Costa pulled Hall in favor of senior goalkeeper Xan
Rousselle (Morrisville, Vt.) for the final 10 minutes. It marked
the first time Rousselle had seen action since earning a win at
Army during the 2007 season after Hall went down with an injury.
Rousselle was tested with one shot in 10 minutes of action against
the Bulldogs on Friday.
They Have To Remember Them
Pelicaen scored his first-career goal which proved to be
the eventual game winner in the 67th minute the last time these two
teams met. Hall made 10 saves in the game as BC outshot the Bobcats
31-6.
