Men's Soccer Defeats Sacred Heart University, 2-0
HAMDEN, Conn. - The Quinnipiac University men's soccer team scored two first half goals en route to a 2-0 victory over Northeast Conference opponent Sacred Heart University on Friday afternoon. Quinnipiac improves its conference record to 2-3-0 and its overall record to 3-8-1. Sacred Heart falls to 4-2-1 in conference play and 9-4-1 overall.
"We had the number one team in the Northeast Conference standings
coming in," said head coach Eric Da
Costa. "To take three points away from this game is big for
us."
Sophomore defender William
Cavallo (Londonderry, N.H.) scored Quinnipiac's first goal on a
beautiful header in the 19th minute of play. Senior
midfielder Dominic
Adams (John Dial, Trinidad and Tobago) picked up his first of
two assists on the afternoon, as he played the ball into the box
which found the leaping defender. The goal for Cavallo was his
second on the season as was the assist for Adams.
The Bobcats struck again just before the end of the first half in
the 44th minute to take a 2-0 lead, as sophomore forward
Philip
Suprise (Milwaukee, Wis.) headed in another Adams cross from
deep in the corner. The goal for Surprise was his second on the
year.
The teams played a scoreless second half, as Quinnipiac sophomore goalkeeper Josh Lavallee (Upland, Calif.) and Sacred Heart junior goalkeeper Alex Fait played solid on the goal line. Each goalkeeper turned away five shots on the afternoon.
Quinnipiac returns to action on Sunday, Oct. 24 at 12 p.m. against Northeast Conference opponent Fairleigh Dickinson.
