HAMDEN, Conn. – Senior forward Philip Suprise (Milwaukee, Wis.) of the Quinnipiac University men's soccer team was recently named the Northeast Conference Co-Player of the Week, announced on Tuesday, September 4, 2012 by the front office. Suprise led the Bobcats to a pair of non-conference wins last week, improving the team's overall record to 2-1 through the first three games.
"I am happy for Philip, and obviously his performance this weekend played a large role in the result," said Head Coach Eric Da Costa. "I'm glad he was able to score his first of the season. Now that the pressure is off of him he can play with a bit more freedom and hopefully continue to produce."
Suprise became the first NEC player to record a hat trick this season when he scored three times in a 3-1 win over Lafayette, capping off a perfect 2-0 week for the Bobcats. He scored twice in the first half and added an insurance tally in the second to complete his second career three-goal effort. Suprise, who finished the week with seven points thanks to an assist in a 2-1 win over Holy Cross, ranks first on the team in scoring with seven points and is tied for the top spot in the league with Monmouth's Francois "Paco" Navarro.
With the six-point performance on Sunday, Suprise moved into a two-way tie for 10th on the all-time scoring list and 13th on the all-time points list at Quinnipiac. Suprise collected his first hat trick back in his freshman campaign against Bryant, when the Bobcats handed the Bulldogs a 3-0 loss at the QU Soccer Field.
Quinnipiac is back next weekend with another difficult non-conference challenge. The Bobcats head down to Loyola (Md.) for a Saturday night showdown in Baltimore. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
