James Doig Named MAAC Men's Soccer Rookie of the Week

EDISON, N.J. – After a week in which he factored in both game-winning goals for the Bobcats, assisting on each of them, freshman James Doig (Liverpool, England) has been named MAAC Rookie of the Week, announced Monday, Oct. 21, 2013 by the league's office.

Doig picked up his second assist of the season on a corner kick in the 39th minute against Marist. Doig whipped in the cross to Tobi Esche who found the top corner of the net for the 1-0 lead. Doig used his vision and passing ability for a second time on the week, when he redirected a pass to Simon Hinde who finished off the play. Doig has three career assists at Quinnipiac.

Doig has been an integral part of the Bobcats midfield this season. He has played and started in ten games for the Bobcats this season. Doig's consistent play has been one of the reasons why Quinnipiac finds itself on top of the MAAC table after a 3-0-1 start.

Doig comes to Quinnipiac with a very distinguished soccer background in England. While in England, he played for the Liverpool Schoolboys, a squad that competed nationally all over England. He also represented England in the Danone Nation's Cup in Lyon, France. Doig has also spent time with two distinguished clubs in England, in Everton FC and Blackburn Rovers FC.

The Bobcats are back in action on Wednesday, Oct. 23 when they travel to Manhattan College for a clash with the Jaspers. Kickoff is set for 7 pm at Gaelic Park in Riverdale, N.Y.
