In Sunday's championship, Quinnipiac and Monmouth battled through 110 minutes of scoreless soccer and needed penalty kicks to decide the outcome. The Bobcats cashed in on four attempts and junior goalkeeper Borja Angoitia (Bilbao, Spain) stopped the Hawks' final attempt to seal the victory.

The tournament victory is Quinnipiac's first in the Division I era and second since 1987 when the Bobcats, then Braves, clinched the Northeast-10 Conference Championship with a 2-0 win over Bentley. Quinnipiac improved to 9-4-7 overall with the result, and look to match last year's total of 10 wins, which was a Division I program record.

According to College Sports Madness' bracketology, Quinnipiac would face nationally-ranked No. 11 UConn in the opening round on Nov. 21, with the winner moving on to face nationally-ranked No. 6 UMBC. The Bobcats last faced the Huskies back in 2004 and suffered a 2-1 loss in the match.
