BURTON, England – Former Quinnipiac men's soccer star Freddy Hall has signed a contract with Burton Albion FC, the club announced on Wednesday, March 19, 2014. Hall is signed for the remainder of the 2013-14 season with hopes of extending his stay on a long-term basis.
Burton Albion FC is an English Soccer Club based in Burton upon Trent, Staffordshire. The club competes in Football League II, the fourth tier in the English Soccer League system, and plays at Pirelli Stadium.
Hall's most recent club was Toronto FC in Major Soccer League (MLS). In July of 2012, Hall debuted against Liverpool FC in a friendly that ended in a 1–1 draw. He made his league debut on August 22 in a 2–1 defeat to Columbus. He also has six caps for his country, with his debut coming against Trinidad and Tobago in September of 2011.
Hall played a year of college soccer at the University of South Florida before transferring to Quinnipiac University in 2006. As a sophomore, he won two NCAA Statistical Awards after leading NCAA Division I men's soccer in save percentage and saves per game while being named to the All-Northeast Conference Second Team and the NSCAA/North Atlantic Region Second Team. He was named to ESPN Soccernet's Top 10 Goalkeepers Of 2010 Class Of Prospects list following his senior season.
The 29-year-old will provide back-up for Dean Lyness and current starting goalkeeper, Rob Lainton, whose loan deal from Bury extends until the playoff semi-finals. Hall will look to extend his contract at season's end.
Manager Gary Rowett said: "Freddy has been training with us and he has a good pedigree. With Rob Lainton only on loan we need to make sure we have adequate cover in the goalkeeping position. It will give us a chance to look at him more long-term, he has played at a good level with Toronto FC and this is a chance for him to make a career in England."
