Borja Angoitia and Men’s Soccer Featured in New Haven Register

HAMDEN, Conn. – Reigning MAAC Goalkeeper of the Year Borja Angoitia (Bilbao, Spain) was featured in the New Haven Register on Saturday, Aug. 23, 2014. The article, written by columnist Bill Cloutier, highlights Angoitia's breakout year in 2013 and looks ahead to the upcoming season for the Bobcats.

Expectations are soaring for Quinnipiac in 2014. Quinnipiac lost just four players to graduation, and brings back all five members of its defensive unit. Quinnipiac, who finished with a 9-5-7 overall record in 2013, led the league in shutouts (11), goals against average (0.70) and goals allowed (16) last year. Quinnipiac earned its first NCAA Tournament appearance after advancing by way of penalty kicks in the MAAC Championship game. The Bobcats knocked off top-seeded Monmouth, 4-3, and earned a first round clash with nationally-ranked No. 10 UConn.

Quinnipiac will take on two first-time opponents to kick off the season at the Sheraton Chicago Northbrook Lakeside Classic. Quinnipiac opens with Northwester on Aug. 29, a team that collected 10 wins last year and earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament. Two days later, Quinnipiac takes on NIU (Aug. 31) in another first-time clash for the Bobcats.
