John Hughes Selected NEC Men's Tennis Player of the Week

HAMDEN, Conn. – Quinnipiac University junior men's tennis player John Hughes (Springfield, Mass.) has been selected Northeast Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week, the conference office today announced. Hughes won all six matches on the schedule this week, taking both the No. 1 Singles and No. 1 Doubles championships at the Bucknell Invitational. Hughes becomes the second Bobcat in as many weeks to earn the award, following freshman James Kwei's (Dedham, Mass.) selection last week.

Hughes defeated UConn's Joe Goldstein, Bucknell's Ryan Sandburg and Wilkes' Jeremy Nolt in singles, while pairing with fellow junior Charlie Feldman (Easton, Conn.) to defeat Sandburg and Jonathan Brenner (Bucknell), Goldstein and Ben Schueler (UConn) and Chris Cozzillio and Kyle Ungvarsky (Wilkes) in doubles play. The six wins improved Hughes' record to 12-3 on the season.

The Bobcats return to action Friday, when they host the Quinnipiac Invitational. Boston University, Bryant, Bucknell, Connecticut, Fairfield and Sacred Heart will take part in the three-day tournament.
