Two Bobcats Doubles Teams Advance To Quinnipiac Invitational Semifinals

HAMDEN, Conn. – Two Bobcats doubles tandems advanced to the semifinals of the Quinnipiac Invitational men's tennis tournament with a pair of wins each Friday afternoon. Junior John Hughes (Springfield, Mass.) and sophomore Brian Mikkelson (Mequon, Wis.) won twice in Flight A, while seniors Tom Curran (Fairfield, Conn.) and Joe Nuara (Little Silver, N.J.) earned a pair of victories in Flight B.

Hughes and Mikkelson defeated Bucknell's Zach Hascoe and Mark Malloy, 8-2, in the first round before beating Fairfield's Dan Sauter and Mark Kremheller, 8-4, in the second round. Curran and Nuara defeated Sacred Heart's Chadd Sullo and Jacob Miller, 8-4, in opening-round action before taking care of Connecticut's Joey Michaels and Tom Cook, 8-3, in the second round.

Senior Vinny Corvari (East Haven, Conn.) and freshman Zach Tuckman (Kinnelon, N.J.) paired to win their opening-round match in Flight B, before falling in the second round. After being defeated in the opening round, junior Charlie Feldman (Easton, Conn.) and freshman Garrett Lane (Reading, Mass.) won their first match in the consolation bracket.

Quinnipiac Invitational action resumes tomorrow morning at 9 a.m., with singles play scheduled to begin the day.
