John Hughes Returns To Round of 32 At ITA Northeast Regional
NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Quinnipiac University junior men's tennis player John Hughes (Springfield, Mass.) defeated Dartmouth's Daniel Freeman (Seed No. 17-32) in the second round of the ITA Northeast Regional, Saturday afternoon at Yale. With the win, Hughes moves on to the round of 32 for the second consecutive year. The two-time reigning NEC Player of the Week faces second-seeded Brendan Lynch of Penn State, Sunday at 10 a.m.
Hughes took the first set, 6-3, before falling in a second-set tie-breaker, 13-11. The junior was leading 3-2, up a break and leading 30-0 in the third set when Freeman retired due to injury.
